Jerry's story · Episode 1
"Jerry had never connected his faith to his health. After this episode, he took a 10-minute walk after dinner and prayed the whole time. His post-meal glucose dropped 28 points. He called it the best prayer he'd had in years."

Episode 1 — Full Script

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own." — 1 Corinthians 6:19

Welcome to the BootDiabetics Podcast — the I Am The Temple Series. I'm Derek, and today we start at the foundation. Your body is not your own. It belongs to God, and that truth changes everything about how we manage blood sugar.

The Science: Post-prandial walking — just a 10-minute walk after meals — can reduce blood glucose spikes by up to 30%. Combine that with a fiber-first approach to eating (vegetables before starch and protein) and you have a powerful, accessible protocol anyone can implement today.

When we see our body as God's temple, stewardship becomes worship. Every meal, every walk, every early bedtime becomes an act of praise.

This week's action: After your next meal, set a timer for 10 minutes and take a walk. Pray while you walk. Track your blood sugar before and after. That's the Temple Method in one action.

The Hidden Reason Stress Keeps Spiking Your Blood Sugar

Jerry's story · Episode 2
"Jerry checked his blood sugar after a stressful work call — 187. No food involved. After applying the cortisol prayer strategy from this episode, his next morning fasting glucose was down 11 points. He didn't change a single thing he ate."

Episode 2 — Full Script

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." — Philippians 4:6

When you're stressed, your body releases cortisol — which signals your liver to dump stored glucose into the bloodstream even without eating. For those managing diabetes, chronic stress is a silent saboteur of blood sugar control that no medication fully addresses.

Five faith-based strategies: 1. Morning prayer before checking your phone. 2. The Holy Spirit breath prayer — 4 counts in, hold 4, exhale 6. 3. Gratitude journaling — 3 entries daily reduces cortisol measurably. 4. Scripture memorization as a mental interrupt. 5. Sabbath practice — God modeled a metabolic reset built into creation.

Philippians 4:6-7Isaiah 26:3Psalm 46:10

Monitoring
The 3 Rs That Changed Everything About My Blood Sugar
Record. Reflect. Respond. Understanding glucose patterns, continuous monitoring, and the faith-driven discipline of consistent self-awareness — not self-condemnation.

Jerry's story · Episode 3
"Jerry started the 3 Rs log on a Sunday. By Wednesday he realized his blood sugar spiked every time he skipped breakfast at church. One pattern. One change. His weekly average dropped by 14 points."

Episode 3 — Full Script

"Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves." — 2 Corinthians 13:5

Record — track your readings consistently. You cannot manage what you don't measure.

Reflect — look for patterns, not perfection. Patterns reveal the spiritual and physical triggers God wants you to address.

Respond — make one intentional change at a time. God didn't rebuild Israel in a day.

The Hidden Saboteur: Why Rest Is the Missing Key to Blood Sugar Control

Jerry's story · Episode 4
"Jerry had been staying up until midnight watching TV. After this episode he set a 10pm phone cutoff as a 'Sabbath for his nervous system.' Within a week his fasting glucose was consistently 8–12 points lower than before."

Episode 4 — Full Script

"He grants sleep to those he loves." — Psalm 127:2

Just one night of poor sleep — under 6 hours — can reduce insulin sensitivity by up to 25%. God designed Sabbath not as a religious checkbox but as a metabolic reset built into creation.

Sleep hygiene as spiritual discipline: A consistent bedtime is a form of trust. It says: I am not God. I cannot run 24 hours. That surrender lowers cortisol. Literally.

Psalm 127:2Exodus 20:8-10Matthew 11:28

The Community Walls: Why You Can't Beat Diabetes Alone
The science of social accountability and Nehemiah's blueprint for rebuilding — each family building the wall nearest their own home. Your health is a community project.

Jerry's story · Episode 5
"Jerry texted his brother after this episode: 'I need you to be my wall.' His brother didn't understand diabetes. But he understood showing up. They now walk together every Wednesday morning."

Episode 5 — Full Script

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor." — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Studies show that social accountability can increase long-term health behavior adherence by over 65%. Nehemiah didn't rebuild Jerusalem alone — each family built the wall nearest their own home.

Who is your health accountability partner? Not a doctor. Not an app. A person who checks in and asks: "How's your blood sugar? Did you walk this week?" That person is worth more to your A1C than any supplement.

Jerry's story · Episode 6
"Jerry sat in his car after church and cried listening to this episode. He said it was the first time he didn't feel ashamed of having diabetes. He felt like God had been waiting for him to see it as sacred, not shameful."

Episode 6 — Full Script

"I urge you, brothers and sisters, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship." — Romans 12:1

The High Priest entered the Holy of Holies once a year — cleansed, prepared, consecrated. When we consistently steward our health, we are preparing our temple to hold the fullness of what God has deposited in us. You cannot run your calling on a broken-down body.

Your body is God's temple. Not a burden, not a source of shame. A sacred dwelling place. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in that temple.
